Chopwell Wood is dedicated under the Countryside & Rights of Way (CROW) Act, and is open for access on foot at anytime.  Walkers have right of way over all other users. Cyclists should give way to horse riders.

The lighting of fires is not allowed, unless permission has first been obtained from the Forestry Commission, and the Fire Brigade has been informed.

Please do not place barbeques on the picnic tables, as the heat burns the wood and leads to the eventual removal of the damaged table.

Dog Walkers – note that Forestry Commission woodlands do not provide dog poo bins, as these can cause problems for wildlife.  Please help to keep the paths clear of dog mess by bagging the waste and taking it home – never leave the bags in the woodland as these do not degrade down.  The areas near the car park and the open area at the Pines are used for picnics and by children playing – please don’t allow your dog to foul these areas.

Do not disturb wildlife habitats – dogs should be kept out of ponds. Some wildlife species are protected by law, and fines of up to £5000 can be imposed for disturbing or harming them.

Help to keep the woodland looking beautiful by taking all your litter away with you.
