Chopwell Wood is a fantastic place to cycle, whether with your family or testing your skills on the moutain bike trail.
The Powerline is a Red Grade fast technical trail that starts at the main car park and finishes near the River Derwent. This trail is for cyclists only, and horse riders or walkers should not use it as this would create a hazard both to themselves and any cyclists who will be approaching at high speed.
The Outside Line is a multi-user Blue Grade trail which takes you round Chopwell Wood following the forest roads, starting and finishing at the main car park – please be aware that there are walkers and horse riders also using this trail. Cyclists must give way on shared trails to walkers and horse riders.
Update – From January 2015 a new group called Chopwell Trail Builders will be doing repairs and maintenance work on the Powerline trail. If you want to lend a hand, then you can find out more via their Facebook page.
For further details of the bike trails in Chopwell Wood, including a downloadable map, can be found at http://ch.visitnortheastengland.com/mtb/trails/chopwell
Remember that there are many other visitors (including very young children), so please keep your speed down and give way to walkers. Never build jumps or create new trails.
More information is available from the MTB North East, their contact details are on the “Links” page.
