CHOPWELL WOODLAND PARK LOCATION
Chopwell Woodland Park is about 10 miles south west of Gateshead, between the villages of High Spen and Chopwell. The only vehicle access into the Wood is via a single track public road from the B6315 at Hookergate near High Spen. The main car park is about half a mile from the entrance, and there is an information board here. A second smaller car park is a further half mile along the public road. Ensure that you secure your vehicle and put valuables out of sight. Please note that there is now a 20 mph speed limit on the single track road through the wood.
Postcode for Chopwell Wood is NE39 1LT but note that if used with some sat nav systems it can incorrectly direct drivers to a footpath entrance. Instead try using NE39 2BL which is the postcode for properties next to the entrance road. Large brown tourist signs are either side of the road entrance on the B6315.
There is a short easy access trail for the less-able next to the main car park.
There are picnic tables overlooking the river, and places for picnics throughout the wood. Please do not stand barbeques on the tables, as this causes damage and the eventual removal of the table. Please take your picnic litter home for disposal. Dog owners – please help us keep our woodland clean by taking away bagged dog poo.
Public car parking is not permitted next to the Forest Classroom
When visiting please have consideration for other users of the woodland and residents
Lighting of fires is not permitted
Sorry, but camping is not allowed without prior permission from the Forestry Commission
