Chopwell Wood is a special and tranquil place, and many people love it. The Forestry Commission and the Friends receive requests for memorial benches and trees, and we understand that people do want to remember loved ones in this way. However, this is not something that is regularly done in Chopwell Wood, as special benches are sometimes damaged, and trees can also be damaged or become diseased – this causes further upset.
There is an agreed policy to welcome any donations via the Friends (as a registered charity) for general use in the care of the woodland. Our constitution ensures that donated money is used wisely in protecting and enhancing Chopwell Wood for generations to come – a legacy for the future from the past.
